As a child, I used to love reading books and magazines, writing in my journal, and English was my favourite class. However, I had never imagined that one day I would be an author.
My entire journey of writing my debut novel has been extremely enriching and fulfilling. My book “The Closure – Journey to my true self” is the story of a strong woman.
I am Sweta Sureka, residing in Kolkata with my husband and my two children. I am part of a society where happiness of woman is often equated with the happiness of her family. My experience and close observation of the people around me made me believe that once the girls get married their dreams, wishes and aspirations take a back seat. They are made to believe that it is their ultimate responsibility to just take care of the family. Their wings are clipped and they don’t even get to know what it is like to fly high in the sky.
Being a woman myself I strongly felt that this issue should be addressed. Each one of us is responsible for our own happiness. We have to take charge of our lives even if it means going against the set norms and standards of the society. In my book, the protagonist Aarti finally gathers the courage to face those who have done wrong to her and live a life of her dreams. She is an inspiration for many of us.
Through my book I just want to convey one message that we get only one life to live. So, it is up to us what we make out of it. Have the courage, face the world and craft your own destiny. No one can stop you from achieving something if you seek it with all your heart and soul.
And what can be a better medium than a story to convey our thoughts. Recently I have been awarded as the 100 inspiring authors of India by The Indian Awaz for my book “The Closure”. This is my first book and I hope to write many more in the future.
